Coaches are going to need to make sure this team is disciplined next going forward.

As good as the defense was, there is one thing the whole team will need to work on. Discipline. Whether it was the energy of the fan base or the big stage in general, this UGA team came out a bit too hot on Saturday. The team gave up 12 penalties for 127 yards. That is almost twice as many yards as the Irish rushed for all day.

Cheif among the mistakes were facemask calls. Julian Rochester was penalized twice alone and these mistakes were really all that kept several ND drives alive. When it wasn’t these, it was pass interference. D’Andre Baker and Dominick Sanders were the offenders back in the secondary which was surprising. However, it’s quite possible that they decided that to hamper St Brown, they would have to break the rules sometimes. Either way, These mistakes kept drives alive.

It wasn’t just the defense. Georgia’s first drive of the game had perhaps the most egregious penalty of the night. Elijah Holyfield returned a kickoff 90 yards down the field, only to have the play called back when Jarvis Wilson put in a silly holding call on a player who was nowhere near the play.

These mistakes need to be cleaned up and that is on coaching. Lack of discipline reflects on the coaches and that needs to be a focus going forward. It will be interesting to see if this is a continual issue or a one game blip.
