Offensive play calling has to improve.

So here’s the thing. This game did not need to be so hard. With a defense playing so well, our offense could have actually done a lot better than it did. Offensive Coordinator Jim Chaney did not exactly call a particularly good game and that is something that is going to have to change if we’re going to have the season fans want.

There were far too many drives where we started off, putting the ball in the hands of our young QB and ignored Sony Michel and Nick Chubb. Both of those players only had 12 carries and for me, that’s not enough. I really want to see both of them get close to 20 touches a game, and there is no excuse for them to have less when we have a freshman QB.

The less said about the so called ‘Wild Dawg’ the better as well, at least for now. One thing that I think should be considered is that Chaney and Kirby Smart are currently trying to sell Justin Fields on UGA and are promising him that they will run certain sets that he can use in year 1. The Wild Dawg is that set and so there is a reason they are running it. I just don’t agree with the timing of the calls. There is a time and place to show that set and they often got it wrong.

Pretty simply, Chaney has to call better games going forward. This defense can do special things, but it needs the offense to score points going forward. Chaney needs to do better if that is going to happen.
