Georgia Football: 5 takeaways from Notre Dame victory.
Jacob Eason should get his job back.
This is not to criticize Jake Fromm. The guy was a warrior who did a great job staying calm in a pressure cooker atmosphere. His stats would have looked an awful lot better if Mecole Hardman had caught a clear touchdown and Sony Michel hadn’t slipped on a well-set screen.
However, Fromm looked like the player that he is, a True Freshman making his first start. That’s not a knock on him, it’s just a reality. He made two silly mistakes. The fumble and the interception were both mistakes that I would expect from a freshman and they did cost our team points. Again though, I will go back to the play calling and say that I never really felt like he was put in the best position by his coach in this game.
That being said, to me, it’s pretty clear that when Jacob Eason is healthy, the job is going to be his again. That’s a good thing. The last thing this fan base and this team needs is a QB controversy. Jake Fromm showed that he could well be the future of the Quarterback position in Athens one day. He showed that he’s going to battle for playing time next year. But he also showed that he’s not ready to take the job quite yet and that’s fine.
Rumor has it that Eason might be able to return for the Mississippi Stae game in week 4. If he can, that would be perfect timing for a team that will need a more experienced QB later this season.
