Special Teams: B+

Georgia’s special teams had another solid game in Week 2. Cameron Nizialek again had an outstanding game punting the football by averaging 44 yards per kick on eight punts. Rodrigo Blankenship, who was awarded a scholarship by Kirby Smart last week, converted on two of his three field goal attempts, including the eventual go-ahead field goal he made with 3:34 left in the 4th quarter that gave Georgia a 20-19 lead.

Blankenship didn’t have as many touchbacks as he did in Week 1 and I’m sure the coaching staff will address that this week. Elijah Holyfield had a long kick return negated by a holding penalty early in the game, leaving Georgia without much production in the return game overall in Week 2. This unit of the team appears to be consistent. If Nizialek and Blankenship can keep that consistency going, Georgia will always have the upper hand over its opponent in the special team’s area of the game.

While not quite as good as last week, there is no doubt that this unit is much better than 2016. It’s not just the kicking, the coverage and returning are also much improved. That should lead to points in a game sooner or later.
