Matthew Stafford, QB Detroit Lions.

Here’s another name you might be seeing a fair bit this year. Matthew Stafford became the highest paid player in the NFL just a few weeks ago. He showed why he’s ready to become a top tier QB in the 35-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals. After throwing a pick 6 to put the Lions down, he calmly led his team to 4 touchdown drives to win the game.

Stafford threw 4 TD passes in the game and looked like a QB very much in control. He’s always had the talent and the arm to beat anyone and he continues to get better each year. While he might not have ever had the huge year where commentators named him a true elite, he again looked better than he did in the previous season. Stafford has grown as a passer each season and he looked really good on Sunday.

It’s still very early in the season so we don’t really know who this Lions team really is yet. However, if they are able to play like they did against a heavily favored Cardinals team for the rest of the season, they could be a contender. Having a big time QB certainly, helps in that regards is Stafford ‘makes the leap’.
