9. 2003 SEC Championship Game vs. LSU

Now back to sadness. And was this one ever depressing? At least in 2011, we didn’t expect Georgia to win. But in 2003, the Bulldogs were favored to get revenge for their regular season loss to LSU.

Georgia only lost by seven in that meeting and was a healthier team when the two met in Atlanta. But Georgia ended up having the first bad performance of the Mark Richt era.

The Tigers took a 17-3 lead into halftime, but Georgia cut the lead a little in the third quarter and only trailed 24-13 going into the fourth quarter. But LSU outscored Georgia 10-0 in the fourth to win the game and the SEC Championship 34-13.

What makes this one worse is the Coaches Poll reluctance to move USC into one of the top-two spots. So even with two losses, an 11-2 Georgia team may have played Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl for the National Championship.
