Georgia Football: 5 Freshmen to watch this Saturday.
2. RB D’Andre Swift:
A few of you might be surprised to see Swift at no. 2 on this list. That’s because I’m someone who loves defense but this shouldn’t be looked at as a slight against Swift. He has probably been the most impressive freshman performer so far this year. His big run last week showed that he is a threat to score from anywhere and it would be good to give him a few more looks this week.
Sony Michel got a knock on his ankle last week and this is not a game he needs to play in. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a healthy dose of Nick Chubb to start with before the other 3 backs take over. Swift is the one that fans should be looking out for the most out of him, Brian Herrian and Elijah Holyfield. He’s the one most likely to blow open a big gain.
It will also be interesting to see if Swift finds his way into the slot at any point. We saw against App State that he has really good hands and can make plays in the passing game. His size and quickness make him a nightmare to cover for taller cornerbacks. Don’t forget punt returning too. Overall, this could be a game where we see Swift used in a bunch of ways. That sounds like a very good thing to me.
