1. DB Richard LeCounte:

As I said before, I’m a defensive guy. That seems to be a good thing with the defense that Kirby is building here in Athens right now. One of the players that has flashed early on so far has been Richard LeCounte. Against App State, he had 5 tackles and while he only had 1 last week, it was a heck of a play.

His closing speed when he made that tackle and knocked away a certain catch was unreal. He wasn’t even in the shot initially, but he flew to his target and made the play. Anybody who has seen his high school highlights will also tell you that this is a guy who genuinely likes to hit people. He’s not the biggest safety, standing 5-10 and about 185lbs, but he simply doesn’t care. When he gets a chance to lay a hit on someone, he REALLY hits them.

That explosiveness and attitude are the main reasons I cannot wait to see him this weekend. With Malkom Parrish back soon, LeCounte will likely see the field less when we get to SEC play. The Samford game will be an excellent chance for him to test himself and show the coaches that they need to keep putting him out there.

I completely understand why so many other recruits wanted to play with this guy. The leadership qualities and personality are one thing, but he’s also a clear difference maker on the field. He just looks like a big play waiting to happen back there. I don’t know when his first turnover is going to come, but I wouldn’t be shocked if it was this Saturday.
