Georgia football got to flex their muscles Saturday night in their 42-14 win over Samford.

If you worried about a letdown similar to last years nail biter against Nichols State, you probably had a large sigh of relief. Georgia football dominated the Bulldogs of Samford 42-14 with their most efficient game of the Kirby Smart era.

The running backs had their best night in quite some time. Jake Fromm looked solid and his further proving himself as the no. 1 quarterback in Athens. The defense continues to look dominant and special teams is still special.

It’s exactly how Georgia needed to play, especially since Mississippi State, Georgia’s next opponent, smacked LSU around Starkville. And with how sloppy Florida and Tennessee looked Saturday, a 42-14 win in this fashion is a huge confidence builder.

Some players looked better than others Saturday. Their great performances are a big reason as to why Georgia looked so good. Here’s a short list of such players from the Bulldogs win over Samford.

Jim Cheney

After two weeks on the bad list, Cheney earned a spot on the good list. For one night at least, Cheney understood what worked and he stayed with it. Georgia’s top four tailbacks combined for 42 carries for 258 yards. But we’ll get to those thoroughbreds in a moment.

Fromm was also in a better position to succeed. More quick routes were drawn up for him, he got to run more pro-style passing plays and it showed. He only threw the ball 13 times, but it was a good 13 plays.

Not much to complain about this week with Cheney. Hopefully he’s learned his lesson and we can expect more of this in the future.
