Georgia football: Top performers from the win over Samford
Lorenzo Carter
Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges is going to have nightmares or Lorenzo Carter for a few nights. The senior linebacker was on him all night and was credited for two sacks. Although he had Hodges in his clutches when he was penalized for intentional grounding. If Hodges didn’t take the penalty, Carter would have had three sacks.
Carter is really having the best year of his career. He stayed in Athens because he wasn’t satisfied with his time at Georgia to that point. He knew with his talent that he should be a high draft pick and one of the best linebackers in the nation. He’s well on his way to achieving that.
The rest of the defense
Of course, the rest of the defense was stout as well. Samford didn’t get a first down for the entire first quarter and only scored one touchdown on Georgia’s starters. Samford only rushed for 23 yards on 22 carries. Most of the damage was done by Hodges. As always, Roquan Smith played all over the field, he finished with six tackles. DeAndre Walker also had a sack Saturday.
