Georgia football: Top performers from the win over Samford
Terry Godwin
Much was made in the off-season about Terry Godwin always being the second receiver. As a freshman, he was second behind Malcolm Mitchell and last year he was behind Isaiah McKenzie. But this year, he appears to have stepped up to be the top target of Jake Fromm.
Going into the game with Samford, Godwin only had three touchdowns at Georgia. Against Samford, he had two. He also had 98 yards on four catches.
His first catch saw him turn and run 51 yards to the end zone where he dove over the goal line for a score. Later, he had another long catch to put Georgia inside the red zone and he took a screen from Fromm a play later for a quick touchdown.
Next: How accurate were we with our prediction?
It’s exciting to see Godwin play like this. He’s been a solid receiver his whole time at Georgia, but he’s always found himself overshadowed by other receivers. For two weeks now, he’s been Georgia’s best pass catcher. His maturity is showing and he’s cemented himself as a leader on offense.
