Georgia Football: 5 Takeaways from Samford Game.
Godwin steps up.
Georgia has been looking for a go-to wide receiver. Terry Godwin has been the clear leader of our wide receiver group, but he was yet to break out this season. It often seemed over the past few days that UGA had not figured out the right way to use him quite yet but that changed on Saturday. Godwin had 2 touchdown catches to go along with 98 yards on only 4 catches. One of them was a 51-yard catch and run.
Godwin in a big play weapon. He’s always been the kind of guy who when he can get in space, is a threat to go the difference. That remains the case, but he has also worked on his route running and his hands. He definitely looks different and it’s great to see him start to build a rapport with Jake Fromm.
The change at QB was probably a bit tough on him. Rumors from Athens was that he had really gotten into sync with Jacob Eason. There’s always an adjustment time with a new QB and so it was great that he was able to get on the same page with Jake Fromm.
Whenever Eason comes back, hopefully, this is going to be the start of Godwin being the receiver we all want. He remains one of the most fun players to watch on this team so I can’t wait to see more of him with the ball in his hand.
