Georgia Football: 5 Takeaways from Samford Game.
Where are our tight ends?
While Fromm seemed to find a rhythm with some of his wide receivers this game, the same could not be said of his tight ends. None of them had a catch on Saturday and that’s a bit of a worry. If Georgia is going to win in the SEC, they are going to need to own the middle of the field and they should have the tight ends to do that.
Issac Nauta is someone who has been tabbed as a potential star at the position. So far, he doesn’t even have 5 catches in the first 3 games. Charlie Woerner made a big drop this Saturday which certainly did not help the position group. Senior Jeb Blazevich doesn’t have the talent of his younger teammates but he’s also not been as reliable as you would think.
One of the big issues is clearly the new QB. Eason and Nauta are both close personally and on the field. Eason found plenty of ways to get Nauta the ball in 2016 and Fromm just doesn’t seem to be looking in his direction right now. He doesn’t seem to be Fromm’s safety blanket in the same way that he was Easons.
Some of it is also probably coaching. They do not seem to have drawn up many plays this season that are intended for Nauta. I wonder if that is because of the difference in arm strength between Fromm and Eason. The team is also leaning on the running game more with Fromm in there and for good reason. Either way, these are weapons we need to start using.
