Solid but unspectacular defense.

The Georgia defense is really, really good. We know that much after last weeks game. This week was another example of that, although overall, they were not as focused as they have previously been. That being said, they still had 3 4-and-outs to start the game and forced a fumble to start the 2nd half that closed out the game.

In some ways, going against Samford and seeing your offense scoring points for the first time this season, it’s not entirely surprising that they weren’t absolutely zeroed in. Their ability to play well and keep their play high early on in the game is a good sign. In previous years, we would have seen a lethargic and lazy looking defense that gets shocked early and eventually has to wake up and slow down a weaker opponent.

Not this year. This year, they made it clear that when they wanted to stop Samford, they would. The secondary still has some issues and that’s a bit worrying going into next week. However, the front 7 remains legit and they stuffed the run again. They are going to need to really play up to that level this coming weekend. Those Bulldogs who play out in Mississippi are no joke.
