Receivers: A

Although Georgia completed only 9 passes against Samford, I was very impressed with the play of the receiving corps. Terry Godwin looked unstoppable on his 2 touchdown receptions and it was nice to see Mecole Hardman finally get his first career touchdown as a Dawg. That being said, Hardman had another drop and it was a costly one. It would have been a clear first down and instead, Jake Fromm ended up scrambling on the next play. That led to a fumble which could have been a problem. This is Hardman’s 1st season as a receiver so some growing pains are to be expected. When he cleans that up, he’s going to be really difficult to stop.

The receivers also blocked very well in the run game. Samford would often put 8 defenders in the box and bring a safety down to the line of scrimmage to try and stop Georgia’s run game. Many of the receivers, including Godwin and Riley Ridley, did a great job of blocking on the outside for the running backs.

As the Dawgs move into SEC play this Saturday, this group is going to have to step up even more in a big way. It is imperative that Georgia establishes a solid passing game in SEC play so that the running game can open up as the games progress. If the receiving group can help make Georgia a truly balanced offensive team, the Dawgs will be dangerous in SEC play.
