Well done Jake Fromm, but hats off to Jim Chaney.

I doubt I was the only dawg fan who lost his mind on that first play. There was absolutely no way I saw that flea-flicker coming. It pretty much set the tone for one of the best-called games dawg fans have seen from offensive coordinator Jim Chaney since he arrived. That first play was a dagger to the heart to Mississippi State and it filled our offense with confidence.

It wasn’t just that call. The play action throw that led to an Issac Nauta touchdown on a 3rd and 1 was ballsy. It was not something we have seen at all from Chaney since he arrived in Athens. It was all the more surprising because we have seen very little of Nauta.  The play was a fantastic use of a player who it seemed Mississippi State had forgotten about. This was the type of offense UGA fans have been wishing for from Chaney. Hat’s off to him for delivering a heck of a gameplan.

Also, credit to Jake Fromm who looked really good. There’s no doubt that his performance was much more than I was expecting from a true freshman in a game like this. His stats are impressive, but his overall play was equal to them. He deserves an awful lot of credit for how well he played.

Now, that being said, I am not ready to ‘crown him’ just yet. There has been a lot of stuff out there suggesting that Georgia has ‘found it’s QB’ and while I do think Fromm has a bright future, I’m not prepared to say that he’s better than Jacob Eason just yet. What I can say is that Georgia is probably in a really good position at the games most important position for the next few years. That’s a good place for us to be.
