The Justin Fields factor.

No recruiting article when it comes to UGA can really begin until we’ve talked about the elephant in the room. That elephant is, of course, the nations #1 overall ranked player Justin Fields. Fields de-committed from Penn State this summer and Georgia seems to be heavily involved. They are the home state school and are pushing incredibly hard to bring him to Athens.

Right now, momentum seems to be going their way. Fields has been in Athens 2 straight weeks and he’s clearly listening. Some people fear that Jake Fromm’s performance on Saturday night would scare him off, but I disagree. Kirby needs to sell Fields on his offensive coordinator Jim Chaney if he has any chance to land him. The fact that Jake Fromm has continued to improve each week should show Fields that this is a staff that can make him better.

It’s also one that will surround him with talent. We all saw the weapons on display on Saturday and more are coming. Zamir White was in town this weekend as was Jadon Haselwood. That’s 2 UGA commits who are the best in their nation at their position. Add in an improving offensive line and a defense that looks lights out and Fields should be able to see a path to win and get better.

No QB should be scared of competition and I don’t think Fields is. He wants to play, like all great players, but Georgia right now is offering him the best support system out there to succeed. By no means do I think it’s a done deal, but that and the hometown element give them a great chance to sign someone who could be a program changer.
