Georgia football: Top performers from the slaughter of Tennessee
Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and the running back corps
The biggest beneficiary of how the offensive line were the running backs. 294 yards is not chump change, that’s a large chunk of yards regardless of who the opponent is. Chubb rushed for over 100, by far his best game against the Volunteers after not playing last year, getting injured in 2015 and playing behind Todd Gurley in 2014.
Michel only had 64, but he had a long touchdown in the second quarter. D’Andre Swift continued to prove that he’s the future of Georgia’s running back position. Brian Herrien and Elijah Holyfield had several good carries. Even Jake Fromm had success on the ground with two touchdowns and two first downs.
And these were complete games. They had their tough yardage. All of them backs had those four-yard power runs. Michel, Chubb and Swift all had plays where they dragged and carries defenders several yards.
The big plays were also there. Chubb, Michel, Swift and Holyfield each had runs of more than 20 yards. Michel’s longest was a 21-yard touchdown, while Holyfield had one 32-yard run.
This wasn’t a three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust sort of day for Georgia. The Bulldogs ran the ball down Tennessee’s throats all day long.
