How Kirby will likely decide:

Practice. It’s something that Kirby seems to endlessly focus on whenever he talks. He has a simple philosophy that runs through his team. ‘The guy who practices the best, plays’. That’s a really simple thing to say when it comes to almost every other position on the field. If a receiver practices better than another for a week then heck yeah, put the guy in. Watch it make the other guys around him better.

Quarterbacks, however, are a different proposition. It’s the most scrutinized and difficult position in all of sports. Whoever is taking those snaps has to be the offensive leader of this team and the whole team has to feel confident that they are going to score. That’s why QB’s are often protected by coaches because any slip in confidence could derail an otherwise promising player.

That being said, when it comes to two guys like this, I think that remains the right way to do it. Whoever starts on Saturday is going to need the entire team behind him and the best way for them to get that is to show out in practice and win the job just like everyone else. If Fromm has a bad week and Eason a good one, I expect to see Eason start. If it’s the opposite, look for Fromm continue to lead the team.
