Georgia Football looking for revenge again this week
Georgia Football righted one of their 2016 wrongs last week against Tennessee. This week, however, they roll into Vandy looking to do the same.
It’s been a great couple of days for Georgia Football fans. To be honest, it’s been a pretty great season so far. After a close win over Notre Dame, the Dawgs have dominated their last 3 games. This is not exactly something we fans are used to. For almost all of my time as a fan, it has seemed as if being a UGA fan is just one great big rollercoaster of emotion. The team, get you pumped up before they knock you down hard with a gut-punching loss. And so the cycle repeats.
2017 has been different so far and what has made it so nice has been the comfort with which the team has handled themselves. And so we are able to look at the upcoming game against Vanderbilt with something other than dread that would normally cripple us. This game is one that so often Georgia would find a way to overlook. The team managed to do just that last season when they rolled a dud against this very team.
Last season, Vanderbilt was the game in between South Carolin and Florida, two matches that Georgia had to win to take the East. This year they have fallen between Tennessee and Mizzou and the same could be said. Over the past few years, a lot of SEC teams have taken Vanderbilt lightly and last year Georgia was one.
Time to turn the page.
Last week, there was quite a bit of fear in the fanbase that this Georgia team would take Tennessee lightly. Considering the history between the two programs, that would have been an issue even though this year’s Vols are pretty bad. That proved not to be the case however and the Dawgs stomped on the Vols in a 41-0 win.
This week, they should bring that same focus to Vanderbilt. After overcoming a ranked Kansas State team in week 3, the Commodores have suffered 2 losses in a row against Bama and Florida. Georgia has some added motivation this week. The loss last year was the low point in their season and it should be one they want to avenge.
It’s a lot easier for the coaches to get their team focused when their opponent beat them the previous year. That is certainly the case for many of the seniors who returned like Nick Chubb and Lorenzo Carter. They did not come back just to lose again to Vandy.
Next: Jim Chaney is beginning to prove us wrong.
This should be another game where Georgia is able to focus on that revenge. If Kirby Smart is looking for something to help remind his team to stay focus, he can just put on last years game. Things are going far too well so far this year for Georgia to sleep on a well-coached team. Hopefully, this will be another game this year where UGA win a little bit more revenge.
