Georgia Football fans woke up to some bad news on Friday morning. They found out that starting LB Natrez Patrick was arrested on Thursday night.

I guess we should have known that things couldn’t all go our way. With Georgia Football in the middle of a great start to the season, something had to happen. Starting inside linebacker Natrez Patrick was arrested late on Thursday night for possession of Marijuana. This is his second arrest, with his first occurring in his freshman year alongside former teammate Chauncey Rivers.

The arrest will likely result in a 4 game suspension for Patrick who has had a strong season next to Roquan Smith so far this season. It’s going to be a tough blow for a Georgia front 7 that has been dominant so far this season. Patrick has been a huge part of this defense and will surely be missed, particularly with regular backup Reggie Carter battling an injury. If Carter and Patrick both miss time, it will likely mean that freshmen Monty Rice and Nate McBride are needed to step in more than expected this season.

If Carter and Patrick both miss time, it will likely mean that freshmen Monty Rice and Nate McBride are needed to step in more than expected this season. Rice has been on campus since January and has seen more playing time so far this season than McBride. He is the player most likely to see the field alongside Junior Juwan Taylor.

It’s a tough break for a team that has been doing so well and a poor decision from Patrick. If he was planning on leaving early and going into the NFL draft, this second strike will certainly not help. UGA will have to lean on its depth now for the next few games.
