Georgia Football getting Justin Fields is a sign of the times
Ignore the ‘star ratings’
Now when I say that, I’m not saying that you should ignore than Fields is a 5-star. No, what I mean is that this Georgia team does not care about those stars. Whether that’s Kirby and the coaches or the players themselves. One of the things that I like so much about this team is the total lack of ‘stars’.
This team has plenty of players who are incredibly impressive. Lorenzo Carter, Roquan Smith, and Trent Thompson could all be 1st round picks. Nick Chubb is just 500 yards away from having the 2nd most rushing yards in SEC history. Terry Godwin is a big play waiting to happen. You get the picture, there is talent all over the place.
That being said, it doesn’t seem like the team cares about that. None of them seem interested in being ‘the man’, instead they always talk about being a team. They always seem to be focused on how they can win as a unit. Carter doesn’t seem to give a damn how many sacks he gets. He does, however, seem totally zoned in on doing his job and supporting his teammates.
The leadership in this locker room is really something special. They are setting a fantastic example of how to put your team first and yourself and your stats second. When a freshman sees Nick Chubb happily give up carries for the good of the team it sends a powerful message. This is exactly the same mentality Nick Saban has built at Alabama and boy is it exciting to see it here in Athens.
