The Georgia Dome is set to implode in just over a month. Georgia football created many great memories in the dome’s 25-year history

The era of the Georgia Dome officially ended back in July as Atlanta United and the Atlanta Falcons began play in the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Now all that’s left is the implosion of the old dome on November 20th.

But the memories will not leave with the Georgia Dome. And Georgia football has a lot of great moments, plays and games to remember from the times it played there.

A few weeks ago, Dawn of the Dawg ranked the bottom six of the games that Georgia played in the Dome. Now, as promised, we’re going to rank the five best games that the Bulldogs played in the Georgia Dome.

5. 2016 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game vs. North Carolina

This game marked the beginning of the Kirby Smart era in Athens. For Smart, the Georgia Dome had been his second home when he was defensive coördinator of Alabama and he looked right at home in this game.

he was solid in his head coaching debut. Georgia executed their game plan to perfection. Nick Chubb surpassed 200 yards and Brian Herrien played surprisingly well in his first game. Isaiah McKenzie began his transition from specialist to offensive leader. And Jacob Eason ascended to the top of the depth chart at quarterback.

The game didn’t go as smoothly as fans had hoped though. After leading 14-10 at halftime, the Bulldogs gave up two touchdowns early in the third quarter. But McKenzie’s touchdown and a safety caused by Roquan Smith cut the lead to 24-23 going into the fourth quarter.

Georgia outscored the Tar Heels 10-0 in the fourth including Chubb’s 55-yard touchdown run to seal the game. In their final game in the Georgia Dome, the Bulldogs were triumphant, 33-24.
