Will Eason stay if he does?

Should Fromm end up starting for the rest of the season, this is going to be a big question. If he steps up and plays so well that the coaches feel can’t drop him, will Eason stay in Athens?

There is a prevailing assumption online that if Fromm keeps the job for this season, that Eason will transfer immediately to another school. That would mean that he would have to sit out the 2018 season and then he’d have the 2019 year to show his skills off for NFL scouts before the NFL draft.

Heres the thing, I don’t know if that’s the best look for a player who wants to play on Sundays. We still don’t know exactly how healthy Eason is this year. There is every chance that he won’t be exactly 100% all season. It should be remembered that injury, not poor play gave Fromm the job. Assuming the Georgia coaching staff is good to its word about loving competition, Eason will have every opportunity to take it back in the offseason.

If he stays in Athens and wins back the job in camp, Eason would have the whole 2018 season to showcase his skills for the NFL. That’s 1 year earlier to a big payday and it also makes him a better prospect. He will have proved that he can overcome injury and an entrenched starter which is something he will have to do in the NFL. Pro teams don’t love QB’s who run to other schools because they don’t want to fight for a job. It’s a bad look and one I would not recommend to a QB with as much potential as Eason.
