When will Fields arrive?

The other big question that will be answered by the end of this year is when will Fields arrive? Both Jake Fromm and Jacob Eason enrolled early in January. This gave them extra time with the team and spring camp. They, therefore, had the opportunity to learn the playbook, work on their conditioning and get to know their new teammates.

This is a really big deal for QBs. It’s especially important if they want to play early. Quarterback is the most difficult position in any sport. A team like Georgia runs hundreds of plays and Fields will need to learn all of them. Even if it’s just specific sets in his freshman year, that extra 6 months makes a huge difference.

This is going to be something Fields has to decide. He is a really talented baseball player who will have to forgo his high school senior baseball season to enroll early. He already has the credits to do so should he choose to. If he plays out the season, he could potentially get drafted in the lower rounds of the MLB draft. That would present him with a nice 5 figure or maybe even 6 figure signing bonus that he can legally accept even if he goes to UGA. It would mean that team has his rights if he ever decides to play baseball instead of football.

Personally, I think Fields will likely decide to focus on football and enroll early. This is a guy who wants to compete right now, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he decided to take the other approach. He has plenty of time to win the Georgia starting job.
