This is certainly a first in college football:

Well dawg fans, I have some good news. It’s pretty safe to say that no matter what happens, we’re going to see some pretty good QB play over the next 3-4 years. Georgia is going to have 3 guys who could start for almost anyone else. That’s unheard of in college football, especially in this day and age.

Kirby Smart and his coaches need to be applauded for being able to get this level of buy-in. It’s incredible to see them recruit at this sort of level. They’re really putting this program in the ‘elite’ category when it comes to bringing in players.

That being said, even our best guesses right now are just that, guesses. Nobody really knows how this is going to play out. The closest we have seen to 3 guys like this is at Ohio State back in 2014. That was very different, however, with Braxton Miller going down with an injury which led to JT Barrett playing. Barrett himself then got injured which meant that Cardale Jones played. That wasn’t a 3-way battle, more a case of next man up.

While that, of course, led to a national championship that year, Ohio State didn’t exactly manage the position well in 2015. Barrett and Jones were ‘co-starters’ for a long time and they never looked settled at the position. There’s a lesson there for Georgia coaches. The class separation gives UGA the chance to make this work. UGA can be a pipeline for NFL QB’s for the next half decade if they get this right. If they do, believe me, these won’t be the last 5-star QB’s we see in Athens.
