Georgia football: Top performers from the win over Missouri
Mecole Hardman
The former track star showed off his sprinter speed tonight with a pair of long touchdowns. He got the game started with a 31-yard end-around score and then iced the game with a 59-yard touchdown catch and run. Here is a video of his two scores, good lord is that guy fast!
Now Mecole is not a finished product. He has only been a receiver since March and he still has a lot to learn at the position. Yes, he has had some drops but those are to be expected. This is not a player who has been catching balls for 8 years. He has literally been doing that for less than 6 months so it is not natural at all.
But when he does get the ball, the explosiveness and athleticism are just frightening. WR coach James Coley has done a great job getting Hardman to this point and it’s going to be really exciting to see him continue to develop over the next few years.
I also loved how he went straight to the visiting recruits after scoring his second TD. He said after that he wanted to send them a message that Athens was a place that develops and grows players. That’s exactly the kind of mindset Kirby is trying to instill in this young team. He’s not thinking about stats right now, he’s just focused on getting better.
