Georgia football: Top performers from the win over Missouri
Rodrigo Blankenship
Settling for field goals is always a pain, but it’s even worse when you miss out on those three points. That wasn’t a problem for us Saturday as Blankenship was a perfect four-of-four with a long of 43.
Yes, I know that kicking isn’t exactly the ‘sexist’ thing to watch, but those ones were important. After a frantic period of scoring saw the game tied at 21-21, Blankenship’s consistency came at a time where UGA’s offense was stalling when it got into the red-zone.
He kicked 3 of those field goals all around the halftime break. The first was just as time expired in the first half. The other two were on the first two possessions of the second half. Those 9 points turned a 10 point game into a 3 score game. Suddenly, Georgia had plenty of breathing room.
Blankenship has come a long way since last season. games like this is a showcase of why Kirby Smart gave him a scholarship earlier this season. His kickoffs have also been much improved so far and he continues to kick with confidence. Consistent kicking is surprisingly necessary on a team that has playoff aspirations. Blankenship again showed that he can be counted on when UGA needs him.
