Georgia Football’s Roquan Smith named mid season All-American
Georgia Football has several players who are having great seasons in 2017. None, however, is playing better than Roquan Smith right now.
Anyone who has watched Georgia play this year will have noticed Roquan Smith. The Junior linebacker has become the clear leader of one of the nations best defences. He is also probably the units best player and he has received his first recognition for the season. The AP named Smith to their midseason All-American team and it was very much deserved.
Smith was the only Georgia Bulldog to make the team, although Nick Chubb’s cousin Bradley also made the list. He is playing really well in his senior year at NC State. Smith is having his best year of what has been a great career in red and black. He is clearly the leader of a very special unit and continually makes big impact plays.
Smith is leading UGA right now in tackles with 53 and is will on his way to his best statistical season for Georgia. His play, however, is about much more than just stats. His impact on the field is felt in a lot of ways, not least his coverage skills. It’s a great advantage for UGA to have an ILB who can cover slot receivers and tight ends when needed. Smiths ability to do this and make plays while also stuffing the run makes him truly a unique player.

It’s good to see him get the recognition he deserves. I think its pretty safe to say that if Smith wasn’t an All-American, I don’t really know who would be. He stands out on a defence loaded with talent as a special player. Hopefully, he won’t be the only UGA player getting recognition when the season ends.
