Georgia Football should seek new answer for Marijuana policy

For me, it’s time for a change:

The ultimate solution that would make all our lives easier would be an SEC wide policy on discipline. That would make life fairer and would allow all of the schools to agree to a standard that they are happy with. It’s highly unlikely that that will happen however and if it did, the agreed to policy would be considerably more lenient than the one UGA currently has.

While I would rather our players didn’t drink too much and smoke weed, to me, I just don’t know why our administration needs to handle this. Nick Saban at Alabama has complete control of his program and he punishes player internally if they commit offences. Tim Williams missed time when he was at Bama and not a lot of people noticed it. I would guess that was punishment for his failed drug tests.

I would much rather see UGA take this sort of approach than continue with the current policy. Under no circumstances am I suggesting that we should overlook clear red flags or ignore real addiction issues. But with the way society is now, this simply is not as big of a deal as it used to be. I would also suggest UGA relaxes it’s Marijuana rules for regular students as well, especially as the laws in Georgia continue to change.

Next: Top recruiting target to decide today.

For me, this should really be about the kids, not the school. If you’re a football player and you want to go out all the time or smoke weed, chances are at UGA, you’re going to get beaten out by someone who doesn’t. To me, there’s no bigger deterrent than losing your job in any walk of life. It’s time for the Georgia administration to think the same.
