Georgia Football continues to add top-level talent on the recruiting trail. This time, it’s the no.3 running back in the country James Cook.

Well, that shows what I know! On Monday I wrote a whole article about how Georgia Football fans might have to wait a bit on the recruiting front. Turns out I was very much wrong. The nations no.3 running back James Cook committed to UGA this evening. His decision was very much pushed forward. He was expected to make a decision this December.

Dawgnation.com’s Jeff Sentell wrote a great piece about why Cook changed his timeline. Today would have been the 20th birthday of his cousin. Drequan Burnett was killed roughly a year and a half ago. He tragically died when the car he was driving was shot at.

Cook decided this morning that he wanted to announce his commitment to honour his cousin. According to Sentell, both Cook and his mother felt like he knew in his heart what he wanted and so they wanted to do something for their lost loved one.

I have to say, this commitment has a really touching story. Recruiting can often be a bit murky with some ‘suspect’ things going on in the background. But this is a great example of a kid using his platform to honour his family. So what does Cook’s decision mean for UGA going forward?
