Georgia football will not wear red versus Florida on Saturday
For the first time since 2013, Georgia football will wear white jerseys in Saturday’s game versus Florida in Jacksonville.
In 2014, Georgia and Florida decided to both wear their home uniforms when they met in Jacksonville. It was meant to be the start of a new tradition in the rivalry. It also matched the trend of everyone wearing non-clashing home uniforms in neutral site games (Georgia and North Carolina both wore home styles in the 2016 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game).
But after three straight losses in the series, Georgia football is choosing to opt out of that new tradition. They will instead wear white jersey’s this Saturday. So if you were looking forward to seeing a field of red and blue, I’m sorry to bear the bad news.
Most won’t care however, it is just a simple uniform change. It should be noted that of the last 10 games in Jacksonville in which Georgia wore white, the Bulldogs are 4-6. Which is under .500, but it’s much more successful than the red jersey’s (2-8).
But does Georgia have any uniform surprises? Team spokesman Claude Felton confirmed that Georgia will wear white, but he didn’t say anything about red helmets or silver britches. Now I don’t think the red helmets should be touched. However, black or red pants would be much more welcomed, especially red pants.
The Bulldogs pulled off a uniform surprise in 2009 with black helmets and pants, which didn’t go over well as they lost 41-17. Black wasn’t used heavily again until last season’s game against Louisiana Lafayette. But, that Georgia team did end the season 8-5 while the Gators went 13-1.
Regardless, uniforms shouldn’t play a factor. Georgia is 7-0 and this looks like the most focused Georgia team in a very long time. Besides the injuries in the front seven against Missouri, the Bulldogs have been fully prepared to play every game this season.
Florida however is 3-3 and has dealt with numerous distractions this year. Nine players were arrested and suspended for credit card fraud, quarterback Luke Del Rio also suffered a season ending injury. But it’s the most recent distraction that’s most alarming.

Gator head coach Jim McElwain mentioned early this week that him and some players had received death threats. When asked for moire information by the University of Florida, he couldn’t give anymore information.
This prompted many to come to the conclusion that he was either lying about the death threats or that the threats weren’t severe enough to warrant even mentioning. We know Georgia is focused and ready for this game. After this past week, it isn’t clear if the Gators are ready.
