Georgia Football: Takeaways from UGA’s big win over Florida
Georgia Football crushed the Florida Gators this weekend. Here are some of the key takeaways from that huge victory for the Dawgs.
What a weekend to be a Dawg fan. Not only did Georgia Football get a big win on Thursday when James Cook committed to the G. The Bulldogs also absolutely stomped the Gators in their annual matchup.
There were a lot of big performances from the game, but here are the 5 takeaways that were most obvious to Dawg fans this Saturday:
This defence really is Savage:
What more can be said about this defence? A lot has been written and Kirby Smart has done his best to keep them grounded. But they showed this week that they deserve all the platitudes. While this Florida offence is not very good, Georgia’s defence deserves the attention. They manhandled the Gators in a way we haven’t seen in some time.
Lorenzo Carter looked like a man possessed right from the beginning. He had a huge sack of Felippe Franks on the first drive and was all over the field. Roquan Smith continues to look like the best linebacker in America and Reggie Carter hit someone so hard that for a moment, I felt bad for a Gator.
The front 7 has been great all year, but the secondary stepped up this week. They had what was by far their best game of the season. Dominick Sanders had his 15th career pick but the whole unit played great. They blanketed Florida’s receivers all game. Franks completed just 7 of 19 passes for only 30 yards. He’s not great, but still, that’s a testament to this unit.
JR Reed’s touchdown after he and Tyreke McGee rushed Franks was the cherry on the cake for this unit. It was the perfect way for them to finish off the Gators. They also sent a clear message to the rest of the nation. UGA’s defence is savage and it’s not going to stop being that anytime soon.
