Georgia Football: Takeaways from UGA’s big win over Florida
Kirby Smart continues on his ‘revenge tour’:
Before the game, Jim McElwain joked about how Kirby Smart was on a ‘revenge tour’ this season. It was an off the cuff way to try and suggest that Florida weren’t scared of Georgia. He might, however, have had a point about Kirby.
Even when Georgia was up big, Smart kept coaching. Once, when up by 21, he called a timeout because his defence wasn’t lined up correctly. He then blew up at Aaron Davis for costing him that timeout. He took Julian Rochester to task when Rochester had a near sack and took his helmet off. Smart was furious that a penalty there would have given Florida hope. They were down 35 points at the time.
Smart has talked a lot about ‘chopping wood’ and staying consistent. Boy is he delivering. This team looks so much different to any that I have seen in Athens. The confidence, the business like attitude, the intensity is infectious. I would never have expected UGA to come out and bully a Florida team like that. But they did.

The Dawgs didn’t take the Florida trash talk to heart. None of them played out of control. They simply did their jobs, knowing that would be enough to win. UGA beat all of the fight out of Florida before the first half had even ended and embarrassed them on national TV. That sounds like revenge to me.
