How long can Barry Odom last?

Now, this is where things get interesting. Barry Odom has not exactly had a good first two seasons at Mizzou. He was hired in the same coaching class as Smart and Will Muschamp. Unlike both of those, he was groomed by the previous incumbent to take over what had been a very successful program.

Gary Pinkel won consecutive SEC East crowns in 2013 and 2014. His final season, however, was disappointing and he didn’t leave Odom as much talent as people thought. Odom struggled to a 4-8 season last year and things might actually be worse in year 2.

Last year, he saved his season by winning 2 SEC East games to end the season in Vanderbilt and Arkansas. This year, once again he has lost every SEC game so far. Missouri’s victories have come against Missouri State, Idaho and Connecticut. That’s 3 of the worst programs in the nation.

It’s likely still too early to tell whats going to happen with Odom, but to me, he’s on the hot seat. The guy is supposed to be a defensive guru and yet that unit is an absolute disaster. A program that used to put defensive linemen into the NFL is now a joke on defence.

I don’t see how Odom can survive another year like this. That’s especially true when fans can look at Muschamp and Smart and see those other coaches making real improvements.
