Georgia Football: Week 9 Report Card vs. Florida
After each game, various players and position groups from the Georgia football team will receive a weekly report card from Dawn of the Dawg. How did the Dawgs do in Week 9?
Entire Team: A+
What a performance this week! That’s why I’m not going to hand out individual grades for the Georgia Football team’s performance on Saturday. It seems appropriate to just give the entire team an A+.
The Dawgs dominated the Gators in every phase of the game and left Jacksonville with a resounding 42-7 win. Georgia’s offence heavily relied on the run and the defence once again showed its one of the best units in the country. Saturday in Jacksonville was stop number 3 on the Kirby Smart 2017 Revenge Tour. The Dawgs avenged another loss to a 2016 foe in Florida. Georgia Tech should take note.
Nick Chubb and Sony Michel continued to shine as the senior leaders on offence. The defence stifled Florida’s offence and safety J.R. Reed was named SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts. The defence also was at full strength (absent the suspended Natrez Patrick) by getting Trenton Thompson, Reggie Carter, and David Marshall back in action.
What’s next?
Georgia appears to be on a collision course to face Alabama in the SEC Championship in December. But Kirby Smart has made it clear that this team has accomplished very little this season. He constantly reminds the players and fans that how the team finishes the season will ultimately show how good they really are.
The first edition of the 2017 College Football Playoff Rankings will be released tomorrow night. Most expect Georgia to check in at number 2 right behind Alabama. Now, some think Georgia deserves to be number 1 right now. They have one of the nations best victories over Notre Dame. But all of that will take care of itself in the long haul. Right now, we’re on to South Carolina.
Next: Georgia get a top 2019 recruit
Georgia is off to its best start in decades at 8-0 and the Dawgs will play South Carolina at home this Saturday at 3:30 P.M. (ET). The players and coaches have made it clear that South Carolina is this team’s only focus this week. Time will tell if the Dawgs can maintain focus and continue blocking out the noise as they try to make this a magical season in Athens.
