Georgia Football: Dawgs no. 1 in initial College Football Playoff Poll
By Mike Stowe
The College Football Playoff Committee released its first Top-25 of the season with Georgia football taking the no. 1 spot.
Well, Dawg fans, it’s official. Your University of Georgia Bulldogs are the no. 1 team in the first College Football playoff poll of the season that the committee released on Tuesday. Feels good just to say it, doesn’t it?
This team has worked hard this season and while there is plenty of work left to do, this is an obvious sign that things are more than just well in Athens. This team has just leaped a huge hurdle on the track towards greatness and, for now, is officially one of the nation’s elite.
In a move that will surely have Alabama fans blowing Crimson colored smoke out of their ears, the College football playoff committee decided that UGA’s perfect 8-0 record combined with a road win over fellow top-4 CFB playoff poll members Notre Dame was enough to vault the Dawgs to the top of the first poll that counts.
While those were both big contributing factors, there’s little doubt that the way in which Georgia has won factored in as well; 42-7 over Florida, 41-0 over Tennessee.
This team has also recorded huge double-digit wins over SEC opponents Mississippi State and Vanderbilt that were never really in question. News flash, Dawg fans; this team is good. And it’s being noticed nationwide now.
This is an amazing time the be a Dawg fan, folks. Don’t take it for granted. In the coming week, I’m going to get into some things such as superstitions and the like that can put a damper on enjoying what is an already historic season.
I’m also going to get into sayings that we tend to overuse. Phrases such as “one game at a time” and “polls don’t matter.” It absolutely matters now. Being first in the College Football playoff poll is a huge accomplishment.
This sets us in such an ideal position. We are going to get everyone’s absolute best due to the no. 1 ranking, but with the leadership this team possesses, I don’t see that being a problem anytime in the near future.

There is plenty of work left to do. But we need to recognize and appreciate what Kirby Smart has accomplished in year 2. Big things are on the way, but make no mistake about it, big things are already here as well.
