For the first time ever in the playoff era, Georgia football reached the no. 1 spot in the College Football Playoff Top-25.

We’ve made if Bulldog fans. We can finally say that our team is no. 1 in America. And while this Georgia football team still has lot more to accomplish this season, that’s not for us to concern ourselves with.

We’re not dressing up, not practicing or film studying, and we especially aren’t playing or coaching. Kirby Smart has this team focused on the goals. And this team is giving us something not just to cheer for, but to be proud of and excited for.

So why are some of you being so negative? This isn’t the time for pessimism, it’s a time for optimism. Now I’m not saying to tattoo “15-0 national Champions” on yourself, but saying that the no. 1 ranking is a “kiss of death,” really?

“But we have 30-plus years of disappointment to teach us to not get over excited.” That’s reason to not get excited even the slightest bit? And are you really saying that this years team is no better than the teams from 2008, 2005, 2004, 1997, 1992 or 1987? A team that’s winning every game by at least three touchdowns since they settled on an offensive identity.

“Things just don’t get that much better overnight.” You’re right, they do not. But Georgia didn’t get this much better overnight. This is 22 months in the making since the day UGA hired Smart. Five seniors returned that didn’t have to. They bought in to Smart’s message and helped him drill that into the rest of the team.

Just watch a Kirby Smart press conference, or post game interview. Then look at interviews with players. They are echoing him. This team has completely taken on the personality of their coach. Just look at the Georgia players after Florida scored that one touchdown last week. Our Bulldogs look like they were the ones who lost 42-7.

They weren’t satisfied. Nothing is satisfying them except perfection. And they’re not even saying 8-0 is perfection. Just last week, Sony Michel said that he didn’t feel like Georgia was undefeated, despite actually being undefeated.

Next: Our Bulldogs are no. 1

How can you not love this team? How can you not be excited for this week or next week? Are you really that incapable of enjoying yourself? It’s Georgia football, we’re 8-0 and no. 1 in the country. Be proud, have some fun and try to trust that Smart is getting those boys prepared to whip South Carolina this Saturday.
