The College Football Playoff Committee put the Georgia Football team in the top spot in their first ranking. How did Kirby Smart get his team this high so quickly?

Well, the Dawgs are on top, at least for now. When the CFP committee made their first rankings of the season, they put Georgia on top. That’s right, at number 1. Ahead of the great Alabama. That’s a big weight to carry but like Kyle said yesterday, it’s one we fans should enjoy.

There is still a long way to go this season. There are still 4 big regular season games that Georgia needs to win. Three of those are against traditional rivals and all of them would love to knock us down and ruin our season.

But before we get to that, let’s take a look at exactly how we got here shall we? Just 1 year ago, Georgia was sitting 4-4 and there were plenty of grumblings about Kirby Smart. While you can’t find them now, plenty of fans were upset that UGA had moved on from Mark Richt. That poor record confirmed a lot of peoples worst fears, that Georgia had fired a good coach and replaced him with a worse one.

Looking at UGA now, it’s hard to remember that season. This is a team that is so much different to last season. It’s also one that is different to anything us fans have seen in quite some time. So what has Kirby and his coaching staff done to get the team to that No.1 ranking? How have they turned a team that was expected to challenge for their division into a playoff contender?
