Georgia Football: Breaking down the South Carolina Game

Georgia Football takes on South Carolina this week in what many see as a ‘trap game’. Here’s my weekly breakdown on what to look for:

For the first time since 2008, Georgia is ranked #1. What a time to be alive. Georgia Football fans should really be excited right now. I know a lot of fans are wondering when the wheels are going to fall off, but the way these Dawgs are playing, I don’t know if they will. South Carolina comes in at 6-2 and could pose a threat to Georgia with the passing game. They also beat #20 NC State in week 1.

What South Carolina Must Do To Win.

While the Gamecocks have been decent offensively, their defense is atrocious. They’re going to have to buckle down and stop Georgia’s offense. Sophomore Quarterback Jake Bentley is going to have to step up as well. He’s a good quarterback and brings that toughness to the team. He’s without his best playmaker so he’s going to have to make big plays. If South Carolina can’t stop Georgia on offense, they will not stand a chance.

What Georgia Must Do To Win.

Stay focused. I honestly think that Georgia is the only team that can beat Georgia right now. They can’t let #1 be a distraction. I don’t think they will. I’ve seen Davin Bellamy tweet “Don’t believe the hype!”. I think the Dawgs will be prepared for South Carolina and will play well.

The biggest concern for Georgia should be Jake Bentley. He’s a legit QB and could be the best one Georgia has faced so far this year. Georgia’s strength is their defense and they will need that unit to have another good week. Shutting down Bentley would make it almost impossible for SC to win.

X-Factors

“Georgia can’t pass” South Carolina defense is the x-factor. If you talk a big game, you have to play a big game. A lot has been said about the UGA passing game but they still tend to be able to run the ball well. The defense for South Carolina is easily the the unit to watch Saturday.

For Georgia, it’s head coach Kirby Smart. He has to keep the guys focused one game at a time. I think he’s doing a great job and I love the “keep chopping”. Don’t forget these rankings are “rat poison”.

Who Wins?

A lot of people have this down as a trap game. I think that makes a lot of sense, but I have a good feeling about this one. Yes, it means a lot to SC, but our guys remain focused. I think it turns into a blowout in the 2nd half.
