Georgia Football has been named Number 1 in the entire country in the CFP Poll but plenty of fans are feeling superstitious.

This has been quite an eventful week for Georgia football and its fans. This past Saturday, we got to see the boys in the red and black go to Jacksonville (a place where many a good Dawg team has lost its way and underperformed) and absolutely dismantle the hated Florida Gators so bad that they fired head coach Jim McElwain before a lot of us even made it home from the WLOCP Sunday. He was yet another victim of coach of the year candidate Kirby Smart, who is now being referred to by some as “the coach killer“.

Then on Tuesday night, the first College football playoff polls were released. Most agreed that Alabama and Georgia would hold the top 2 spots. What was much more debated was who would be #1. It was revealed that the CFB playoff committee was giving that first #1 ranking to UGA. They obviously are extremely impressed with Georgia’s body of work to this point and think the Dawgs schedule has been tougher than Bama’s. I agree.

We have dealt with success before. 2002, 2007, and 2012 were all years when Georgia was really good and being discussed as such nationwide. But make no mistake about it y’all…this is a different kind of deal. This is the CFB Playoff committee, the ones who select the only 4 teams in the country to get a chance at the national title, saying that 2/3rds of the way into the season,  Georgia is the top team in the nation. That’s an exciting statement if you’re a Dawg fan.

It’s been interesting to see how our fans have reacted to the news of being ranked #1. I have heard every sports cliché in the book this week. I’ve also heard a lot of talk about superstitions. I actually discussed that a little in the off-season. I know how passionate our fan-base is, I know the starvation for a national championship that you all feel because I feel it as well. So let’s look at some of the things that are being talked about by fans and see if we can figure out if there’s anything to any of them. What should we worry about while dealing with the tremendous success of this team and what is a waste of time?
