The defensive line and linebackers

Jake Bentley and the Gamecocks have a great passing game that was hard to stop all game long. But it was their inability to produce a run game that kept them from scoring more than 10 points. That falls on Georgia’s front seven who allowed only 43 rushing yards, sacked Bentley twice and produced the pass rush that led to the two interceptions.

That group is the deepest on the team but it also has some of the best leadership. Roquan Smith and Reggie Carter accounted for 16 tackles and two sacks from middle linebacker. The defensive line led by Trenton Thompson and John Atkins didn’t allow any room for A.J. Turner. And Lorenzo Carter and Davin Bellamy kept Turner between the tackles.

Georgia is known for its rushing attack, but the front seven is the backbone of the team. It’s because of them that Georgia maintained control of the game even though the offense failed to score 30 points for just the second time this season.
