Georgia Football goes to Auburn with a lot on the line
Georgia Football heads to Auburn this week with a lot on the line. If they can come out with the win, they remain a legitimate playoff team.
When was the last time this game meant so much to both sides? The Georgia Football team goes to Auburn on Saturday with more on the line than they have had in a really long time. It was 2012 when Georgia last held their National Championship chances in their own hands this late in the season. Coincidentally, that year they stomped the Tigers 38-0.
That was a very different Auburn team, however. It was a 3-9 team that was in the final death throws of the Gene Chizik era. Things are going to be very different this year. While they have two losses, Auburn also control their own destiny right now. If they can overcome both Georgia and Alabama over the next few weeks, they will likely guarantee themselves a place in the Playoff.
This is a critical season for Gus Malzahn. After a great first season, he has delivered very little. He is yet to win more than 8 games and his teams have often failed down the stretch. Malzahn is 5 for 12 in November over the past 3 season. He has consistently failed to beat Georgia or Alabama.

Malzahn needs this game just as much if not more than Georgia. Last year, his season was essentially ended when his No.6 ranked team was shocked by the unranked Dawgs in Athens. Now, Georgia brings the top-ranked team in the nation into his stadium. And he’s lining up a talented team that is favored by the Vegas bookmakers.
This game will tell us a lot about both programs. Should Georgia lose, they are unlikely to make the playoff although they remain closer than many thought when the season started. Should they win, Auburn fans will be wondering if Malzahn is really the right man going forward. It would also be another great victory for a Georgia team that is building a very strong resume for the CFP Committee.
