I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that many sources have chosen Auburn as they favorites to beat Georgia. After a 125 years with numerous upsets, wouldn’t you consider choosing the underdog. Looking back at the series history, I can say that Georgia could enter 9-0 and Auburn could enter 0-9, and I still wouldn’t think you were crazy for picking Auburn.

That’s the nature of the rivalry. It’s why Georgia versus Auburn is one of the best rivalries in college football. I consider Auburn our biggest rival for that reason. Who else do we have a 125-year history like this with?

Championships have been won and loss in this game. National Titles, SEC Titles, SEC Divisional titles, SoCon Championships, SIAA Championships. Every championship the Bulldogs and Tigers have gone for, they have each stood, un-intimidated in the other’s way.

The coaches, championships, players and plays all helped make the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry into one of the best. But for my money, it’s the upsets that make it special. It’s the underdogs spoiling great seasons. And goliaths taking their stature for granted.

But I just hope that no such upset happens this Saturday when the no. 1 Bulldogs travel to Jordan-Hare to play the no. 10 Tigers.
