Georgia Football fans have had a tough week following the Auburn loss.
40-17. Those numbers will haunt me like 41-0 will Tennessee fans and 42-7 will Florida fans. The Georgia Football team was completely blown out by the Auburn Tigers this past Saturday in a contest that was completely one-sided. Besides the first offensive drive of the game, the Auburn defense was absolutely stifling. Their offense was clicking on all cylinders as running back Kerryon Johnson rushed for 167 yards on 32 carries. AU quarterback Jarrett Stidham went 16-23 for 214 yards and passed for 3 TDs. The UGA rushing offense, which was one of the best in the nation before this game, was finally shut down as Nick Chubb and Sony Michel combined for only 48 yards.
The offensive line was pushed around by Auburn’s defense, and they ended up with 4 sacks on the day. Jake Fromm finally looked like a freshman. Besides Nick Chubb passing Bo Jackson on the SEC’s all-time rushing yardage list and some good play in the return game by sophomore Mecole Hardman, there honestly wasn’t a whole lot to feel good about coming out of this game, especially considering that we were the #1 team in the nation. This loss dropped the Dawgs to #7 in the latest edition of the College Football Playoff poll after a two-week stay at the top.
Where do the Dawgs go from here?
Kirby and the team will do their best to move on. They must. Kentucky comes to town this Saturday and they will be looking to upset the Dawgs. This is a game that spooks some Dawg fans. I’m not one of those fans. I believe we are going to see a focused and angry Dawg team. They were embarrassed at Auburn, and they will be hungry to prove that they are not pretenders. A win this Saturday will accomplish yet another impressive feat in this historic season……going undefeated in the SEC East. It will be the seniors’ last game in Sanford Stadium and a great opportunity for the Dawgs to get back on track.
So where do us fans go from here? I’ve seen a lot of different reactions to this loss from our fan-base regarding this loss. While I can’t tell y’all how to feel, I can address some of these reactions and hopefully put a few things in perspective in the process.
