Georgia Football top five highlights from Senior day
Special mention for Roquan Smith:
And now one final mention and it’s not for a senior. There are several juniors who could end up going to the NFL draft right now. Trenton Thompson and Jonathan Ledbetter have been fantastic on the defensive line. Natrez Patrick is a legit NFL prospect. But no player means more to this team than Roquan Smith and he had another amazing performance on Saturday.
He led the team with 9 tackles as well as having a sack. Smith was absolutely all over the field again. There were multiple drives which he single handily shut down. That’s how good he is. Smith is the only player I have seen on the defensive side stop a drive like that. He reads the play, stuffs the run, rushes the passer and breaks up passes. It is simply a joy to watch.
Right now, I don’t know how Roquan cannot go pro. For me, he is the best linebacker in America. He’s not just ready to play in the NFL next season, he’s ready to play today. The guy is simply unbelievable. I want to see him in the red and black for one more year than anything, but sometimes, you just know that someone is ready to take that next step.
That’s why I wanted to give Smith a special shoutout. If this was his last game in Athens, he didn’t disappoint. He has probably been the very best player on the team this year. He’s the heart and soul of the best UGA defense I have seen in years and he’s someone I cannot wait to see on Sundays. Wherever he ends up, I’m going to watch. Thank you Roquan, you’ve been a dream.
