Georgia football is at the most four games away from losing one of its best players of all time, Nick Chubb as the running back’s eligibility is set to run out after the season.

One of the greatest players in Georgia football history has played his final game in Sanford Stadium. Running back Nick Chubb returned for his senior season when many thought he would leave for the NFL after his junior year. While I’m sure improving his draft stock factored into the decision, it should be obvious to everyone now that other factors played a major part in his return.

Chubb knew this team was going to be special. He knew he could have a great individual season. He knew that he would have a chance to play for a championship if he returned. And he knew that Kirby Smart was on the verge of major success in year two as head coach. He was right.

Chubb did typical Chubb things in his last home game as a Georgia Bulldog. He rushed for 151 yards on 15 carries and helped push the Dawgs past the Kentucky Wildcats by a score of 42-13. It was simply another great performance by a great player. He now sits at 1,045 yards on the season and is fourth on the all-time career rushing list in the SEC with 4,469 yards.

More from Dawn of the Dawg

He’s not going to catch the leader, of course (that would be fellow Dawg Herschel Walker with 5,259 career yards), but number two on the list is attainable. That spot is currently held by former Arkansas running back and current Dallas Cowboy Darren McFadden, who has 4,590.

That means Nick Chubb needs 122 yards next Saturday against the North Avenue Trade School to take McFadden’s spot. How awesome would it be to see two Dawgs at the top of that elite list? We have all seen the damage that Chubb has done against Tech in the past, so it’s definitely not out of the realm of possibility.

While we are fortunate enough to get to see this all time great Bulldog play for at least three more games and hopefully four more, the Nick Chubb era is officially over in Sanford Stadium. The Bulldog Nation will miss and remember Chubb as an absolute workhorse who ran with the power of a tank and the speed of a Lamborghini.

While his injury at Tennessee in his sophomore season held him back from approaching Herschel’s numbers, he still was great. Let’s take a look back at some of the highlights of his career between the hedges.
