Georgia Football: Nick Chubb’s Sanford Stadium Legacy
By Mike Stowe
2017 vs. Kentucky
I discussed this a little earlier. What a way for Chubb to say good-bye to the stadium that he broke off so many amazing runs in and created decades of memories for the Bulldog Nation than to rush 15 times for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Kentucky Wildcats. His second TD was reminiscent of 2014 Chubb.
He was without a doubt the MVP of this awesome, emotional night. You could see this performance coming, too. Coming off a bad loss to Auburn, it being the seniors‘ final home game, and the hunger to answer critics who questioned if Georgia deserved all the attention they had got drove #27 to run like it was 2014 again.
It reminded me of Kobe Bryant’s final game as a Laker. All eyes were on Chubb. The defense of Kentucky, which actually had some pretty good athletes, knew that he was going to get the ball. But like so many times in the past, it didn’t matter.
He churned and churned and eventually broke the will of the UK defense. I was fortunate enough to be there to see this one. It was awesome to see one of my favorite Georgia players ever say good-bye to Sanford Stadium in such a dominant way.
Next: Top performers from the win over Kentucky
Few players are or will be remembered as fondly in Athens as Nick Chubb. He will go on to play well in these last three (or hopefully four) games of this historic season and add to his already impressive career and season numbers.
He will then undoubtedly go on to have a success NFL career. And while he may make his living in another team’s stadium, he fine tuned his skills in Sanford Stadium and was one of the greatest offensive talents to ever play in it. We will miss Nick Chubb
