Could Brenton Cox be back in the fold?

Well, that’s the bad news out of the way for Georgia. It’s nothing but smooth sailing from here guys I promise! Let’s start with a player that a lot of fans thought was no longer an option for Georgia.

Defensive End Brenton Cox choose Ohio State back in April over the hometown Bulldogs. That was a big blow to UGA at the time. Cox is a hometown guy who has lots of family who are big Dawg fans. His decision was pretty much the low point of the 2018 recruiting cycle. When he chose the Buckeyes, lots of commentators were writing off UGA as a one recruiting class wonder.

Fast forwards 6 months and oh how things have changed. UGA sits with the nations no.5 class and should end up in the top 3 again. Cox choose OSU because he believed that they offered him a better chance to make the NFL. Considering how UGA has played this year, that seems to be changing a bit.

Cox was at Athens this past weekend and at the game. 2019 super recruit and recruiter Jadon Haselwood spent a lot of time chatting with him. So did several defensive coaches. He clearly remains a focus for the staff and UGA is probably the only team right now that could flip Cox.

Will they? I don’t know, Cox is a 5-star player and Urban Meyer is going to fight to the end to hold onto him. But don’t count Kirby Smart out on this one yet. Cox is going to enroll early and it wouldn’t be a total shock for him to come to Athens.
