Georgia Football: 5 takeaways from UGA’s victory over Tech
All those practice sessions worked:
Kirby Smart told reporters at the beginning of the week that he has been working towards this game for the whole season. Georgia has devoted a portion of their Monday practice every week to prep for the triple option. Clearly, he wasn’t taking any chances after losing his first ever game against Tech last year.
His plan and the team’s efforts played off. The Georgia defense was close to its best on Saturday. Once again it was led by Roquan Smith who has another lights out game. Tech rushed the ball 46 times for just 188 yards. They completed only 2 passes on 9 attempts.
In short, Georgia shut down that horrible triple option and they did it in style. If there is one thing this UGA team is not lacking in its speed. They constantly rushed to the point of attack and closed Techs running lanes. They were helped by the fact that Taquon Marshall is not exactly a great passer. He missed some wide open receivers time and again.
But that shouldn’t take away from the fact that UGA totally shut down Tech this year. All of their trickery didn’t amount to anything. Georgia was clearly the better team and they showed it.
